Multiproxy climate reconstructions for the Eemian and Early Weichselian

Journal of Quaternary Science, 1998
Palaeobotanical, coleopteran and periglacial data from 106 sites across northwestern Europe have been analysed in order to reconstruct palaeoclimatic conditions during the Eemian and Early Weichselian. Three time slices in the Eemian and four in the Early Weichselian have been considered.

Sedimentary features of a Weichselian glaciolacustrine delta

Boreas, 1981
Inclined beds of sand, granules, pebbles and cobbles resembling a glacio‐tectonically tilted sequence were shown by sedimentological studies to constitute the 10–12 m thick foreset beds of a glaciolacustrine Gilbert‐type delta in Kyndby, North Sjælland, Denmark.

Eemian and Weichselian stratigraphy in South Sweden

Boreas, 1981
The stratigraphy of Pleistocene sequences within three main areas of the province of Skane, South Sweden, is discussed. The traditional stratigraphy is revised. New lithostratigraphic units are deficned and named according to international stratigraphic terminology.

Weichselian in Sweden before 15,000 B.P.

Boreas, 1981
A brief summary is given of the present state of knowledge about the Weichselian glaciations and interstadials in sweden. The following stages are discussed: (1) The first Weichselian glaciation (W1). This glaciation has not been identified. Probably only northern Sweden was ice‐covered. (2) The Jämtland Interstadial, dated at > 50,000 B.P.

Late Weichselian geology of southernmost Sweden

Boreas, 1988
The area of study is strategically placed 250–500 km inside the border of the Weichselian glaciation. The low relief of the area, the surrounding of a shallow sea and the varying bedrock have all influenced the physical nature of the ice. Different methods, including analyses of reworked microfossils, have been used to produce a new informal ...

Weichselian in Finland before 15,000 B. P.

Boreas, 1981
A historical review is given of the stratigraphic and chronological research of the Weichselian glaciation in Finland. Submorainic interglacial organogenic deposits have been found in Finnish Lapland and Ostrobothnia. Radiocarbon analyses give ages of over 50,000 years B.P.

Early Weichselian interstadial sediments at Härnösand, Sweden

Boreas, 1992
The till‐covered organic sediments at Härnösand have been resampled and reinvestigated with respect to their micro‐ and macrofossil content. The sediments were deposited in a shallow freshwater basin with a sandy substratum and probably under oligotrophic conditions.

Weichselian temperatures from geothermal heat flow data

Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2003
We report an analysis of geothermal heat flow density (HFD) in the Fennoscandian Shield and East European Platform showing a systematic variation with depth. The HFD data (1352 values) averaged in 25 m depth intervals and in 1° × 2° latitude‐longitude areas increase from ∼35–40 mW m−2 in the first 500 m to ∼45 mW m−2 at 1000 m, finally reaching ∼50 mW ...

The Late-Weichselian flora of the Isle of Man

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1970
The last glacial deposits of the Ballaugh-Kirkmichael area in the north-east of the Isle of Man have been investigated by analysis of pollen and macroscopic fossils and by radiocarbon dating. Assemblages totalling over 160 taxa of vascular plants and mosses have been recorded from strata referred to LateWeichselian zones I, II and III ...

Periglacial microjointing and faulting in Weichselian fluvio‐aeolian deposits

Journal of Quaternary Science, 1993
AbstractA Weichselian Late Pleniglacial fluvio‐aeolian deposit has been investigated in the southern Netherlands. Three main structural lineaments have been distinguished: (1) very small, vertical platy structures (microjoints), in a parallel and a columnar configuration; (2) large joints and normal faults with minor displacement (‘Grubbenvorst type’),
