Extended means as weighted means
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001Summary: Extended means can be viewed as special cases of the well-known weighted means. With this point of view, many properties of the extended means, like monotonicity and convexity, can be derived very easily from the corresponding established results of the weighted means.

Learning weights for the quasi-weighted means
IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 2002We study the determination of weights for quasi-weighted means (also called quasi-linear means) when a set of examples is given. We consider first a simple case, the learning of weights for weighted means, and then we extend the approach to the more general case of a quasi-weighted mean. We consider the case of a known arbitrary generator f.

On the Weighted Mean of a Pair of Strings
Pattern Analysis & Applications, 2002String matching and string edit distance are fundamental concepts in structural pattern recognition. In this paper, the weighted mean of a pair of strings is introduced. Given two strings, x and y, where d(x, y) is the edit distance of x and y, the weighted mean of x and y is a string z that has edit distances d(x, z) and d(z, y)to x and y ...

Spherical Means and Weighted Inequalities
Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 1996This paper studies weighted inequalities, that is, norm inequalities in the \(L^p\)-space defined by the measure \(w(x)dx\), for maximal operators defined through spherical means. The unweighted inequalities are due to \textit{E. M. Stein} [Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA 73, 2174-2175 (1976; Zbl 0332.42018)] for \(n\geq 3\) and \textit{J. Bourgain} [J. Anal.

The Spectrum of Weighted Mean Operators
Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1987AbstractRecently J. B. Reade determined the spectrum of C, the Cesaro matrix of order 1, considered as an operator on c0, the space of null sequences. Previously F. P. A. Cass and the author had determined the spectra for a large class of weighted mean operators on c, the space of convergent sequences.

Weighted Iterative Truncated Mean Filter
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2013The iterative truncated arithmetic mean (ITM) filter was proposed recently. It offers a way to estimate the sample median by simple arithmetic computing instead of the time consuming data sorting. In this paper, a rich class of filters named weighted ITM (WITM) filters are proposed.

WEIGHTED MEANS BASED ON TRIANGULAR CONORMS
International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 2001Generalizing the construction of weighted quasi–arithmetic means from generated t–conorms, we propose a new class of weighted means related to continuous t–conorms. By duality, t–norm based weighted means can be obtained, too. Our method fits also in the case of finite ordinal scales. Several examples are given.
