Generalized Weighted Mean Programming

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1971
Two algorithms for nonlinear programming are given. The idea behind these algorithms is the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality. Two examples are shown together with the necessary proofs of convergence.

Spherical Means and Weighted Inequalities

Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 1996
This paper studies weighted inequalities, that is, norm inequalities in the \(L^p\)-space defined by the measure \(w(x)dx\), for maximal operators defined through spherical means. The unweighted inequalities are due to \textit{E. M. Stein} [Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA 73, 2174-2175 (1976; Zbl 0332.42018)] for \(n\geq 3\) and \textit{J. Bourgain} [J. Anal.

Nominal Weights Mean Equating

Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2012
The authors introduced nominal weights mean equating, a simplified version of Tucker equating, as an alternative for dealing with very small samples. The authors then conducted three simulation studies to compare nominal weights mean equating to six other equating methods under the nonequivalent groups anchor test design with sample sizes of 20, 50 ...

Learning weights for the quasi-weighted means

IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, 2002
We study the determination of weights for quasi-weighted means (also called quasi-linear means) when a set of examples is given. We consider first a simple case, the learning of weights for weighted means, and then we extend the approach to the more general case of a quasi-weighted mean. We consider the case of a known arbitrary generator f.

Weighting by mean differences

Terrestrial Magnetism and Atmospheric Electricity, 1927
It is often desirable to express, according to some suitable criterion, the order of agreement of separate results obtained in repeated measures of a constant quantity, or the amount of dispersion or scattering of values of some periodically recurrent natural phenomenon.

II—mean curvature and weighted mean curvature

Acta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1992
Abstract Several different formulations are in use for mean curvature (appropriate for isotropic surface free energy) and weighted mean curvature (appropriate for anisotropic surface free energy). These formulations are collected and described in this paper.

On weighted L-conjugate means

2006
Some Jensen's type inequalities strongly connected with weighted L-conjugate means of n≥ 2 variables are given. Comparison and equality problems for weighted L-conjugate means are solved.

Generalized Weighted Arithmetic Means

2011
Means which are the sum of single variable functions are considered. It is shown among other that if such a mean is weighted quasi-arithmetic, or subtranslative or subadditive then it must be a weighted quasi-arithmetic mean. Conditions under which the functions of the form f(x) = ax + b are affine or convex with respect to such a mean are presented ...
