Introducing Machine Learning Concepts with WEKA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This chapter presents an introduction to data mining with machine learning. It gives an overview of various types of machine learning, along with some examples. It explains how to download, install, and run the WEKA data mining toolkit on a simple data set, then proceeds to explain how one might approach a bioinformatics problem. Finally, it includes a

Automated Imaging of Cultured Bacteria in Picoliter Droplets by Coherent Anti‐Stokes Raman Scattering and Two‐Photon Excited Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
We present an automated system that combines an image‐based fuzzy logic controller for precise positioning of microfluidic picoliter droplets with nonlinear microscopy, using CARS and TPEF modalities for detailed analysis of droplet composition. Time series and z‐stack images of E. coli, B. subtilis, and M. arborescens were recorded.

RuntimeSearch: Ctrl+F for a Running Program

open access: yes, 2017
Developers often try to find occurrences of a certain term in a software system. Traditionally, a text search is limited to static source code files. In this paper, we introduce a simple approach, RuntimeSearch, where the given term is searched in the ...

Microanatomical features of bovids long bones: What are the effects of mass and habitat?

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
This study provides the first qualitative and quantitative exploration of inter‐bones and interspecific variations in the microanatomy of long bones in bovids in response to significant changes in body mass and habitat. Abstract Bovids are a valuable group for studying limb long bone adaptations due to differences in size and the environment that the ...

Decision Tree Classifiers for Star/Galaxy Separation

open access: yes, 2010
We study the star/galaxy classification efficiency of 13 different decision tree algorithms applied to photometric objects in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Seven (SDSS DR7). Each algorithm is defined by a set of parameters which, when varied,
