Effects of Active Gases on Droplet Transfer and Weld Morphology in Pulsed-Current NG-GMAW of Mild Steel

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2021
The current research of narrow-gap gas metal arc welding (NG-GMAW) primarily focuses on improving the sidewall fusion and avoiding the lack-of-fusion defect. However, the high cost and operation difficulty of the methods limit the industrial application.

Research on the Formation, Microstructure, and Properties of 304 Stainless Steel AC-DC Hybrid TIG Welding

open access: yesMetals, 2023
In this work, a new welding method, AC-DC hybrid TIG welding, is used to weld 304 stainless steel. Research on the formation, microstructure, and properties of 304 stainless-steel welded joints are studied by using optical microscope and microhardness ...

The role of friction stir welding tool on material flow and weld formation [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Science and Engineering: A, 2008
In this investigation an attempt has been made to understand the mechanism of friction stir weld formation and the role of friction stir welding tool in it. This has been done by understanding the material flow pattern in the weld produced in a special experiment, where the interaction of the friction stir welding tool with the base material is ...

Comparative study of evolution of residual stress state by local mechanical tensioning and laser processing of ferritic and austenitic structural steel welds. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Complex thermal stresses generated in welded structures are undesirable but inevitable in fusion welding. The presence of residual stresses can be detrimental to the integrity of a welded joint.

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Numerical and experimental study of the weld joints formation in welding foam materials [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
A numerical analysis of fusion welding of steel- and aluminum-based foam materials is carried out. The schemes of the structured and stochastic pore distribution are considered. The research results were used to conduct the experiments which confirmed the reliability of the numerical calculations.

Parametric finite-element studies on the effect of tool shape in friction stir welding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The success of the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) process, and the weld quality produced, depends significantly on the design of the welding tool. In this paper the effect of variation in various tool geometry parameters on FSW process outcomes, during the ...

Anomaly Detection Method for Hybrid Workpieces Using Dynamic Time Warping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Monitoring of hybrid workpieces: when machining hybrid workpieces, unavoidable axial deviations of the material transition zone cause temporal shifts in the process force signals. A new anomaly detection method based on dynamic time warping is proposed to detect material defects.

2D linear friction weld modelling of a Ti-6Al-4V T-joint [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Most examples of linear friction weld process models have focused on joining two identically shaped workpieces. This article reports on the development of a 2D model, using the DEFORM finite element package, to investigate the joining of a rectangular Ti-
