Weld pool oscillations in laser welding
ICALEO '95: Proceedings of the Laser Materials Processing Conference, 1995The weld pool oscillations in laser spot welding were investigated experimentally using high speed schlieren photography and probe laser beam reflection technique. Millisecond, 3 kW power pulses from a Rofin-Sinar RS3000 CO2 laser were used for spot welding of SS304 stainless steel samples.

The shape of the liquid/gas interface of a weld pool is determined by the balance of gravitational and surface tension forces. Equilibrium profiles and stability criteria are derived for vertical and horizontal situations.

Weld pool edge detection for automated control of welding
IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1991A vision system that determines the edges of the weld pool in sequences of gas-tungsten-arc welding images acquired by a coaxial viewing system is described. The vision system uses a transformation that maps the edge of a weld pool into a vertical line.

On the Prediction of Weld Pool Size and Heat Affected Zone in Shallow-Pool Welding
Transport Phenomena in Materials Processing and Manufacturing, 1996Abstract Numerical modeling of the Weld pool has been pursued by many investigators over the last decade. Most of these efforts have focused on the details of fluid flow and heat transfer in the weld pool. These efforts have not addressed the important practical issues of the welding engineer which include reliable prediction of the weld

A vision system for monitoring weld pool
Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003The authors describe a vision system that can monitor a weld pool in multipass arc-tungsten-gas welding. The system uses sequences of images acquired by a coaxial viewing where the optical axis coincides with the axis of the welding electrode. First, the system detects the weld pool edge by transforming an image such a way that a weld pool edge maps ...

Neural control of weld pool in the robotic welding
Proceedings of 1994 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2002This paper deals with some problems concerning the controlling of the weld pool shape. The model of the weld pool is represented by using the RC circuit, where the resistance R corresponds to the thermal resistance. The authors try to keep the voltage across the capacitor C constant, regardless of the variation of R, by controlling the applied voltage ...
