Tailoring nanotwinned Cu interlayers for localizing anisotropic plastic deformation during low energy input ultrasonic welding of robust Cu-Cu joints

open access: yesMaterials & Design
Ultrasonic welding, known for its severe plastic deformation, faces the challenge of balancing sufficient deformation at the welding interface with minimizing damage to the substrate.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

A Study on the Effects of Welding Deformation According to Weld Sequence in Overlay-Welded Structures

open access: yesMetals
In this study, thermal elasto-plastic finite element analysis was conducted to derive the optimal welding sequence to minimize overlay welding deformation on the water wall panels of an SRF (solid refuse fuel) boiler.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Numerical Study on Welding Structure of Connecting Fin Used in Thermal Power Plant

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The background of deep peak-shaving poses demanding requirements for the performance of metal components in thermal power plants. The cracking of the connecting fins on the side wall of the flue seriously endangers the safe operation of the system ...

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.
