Numerical and experimental study of residual stress in multi-pass laser welded 5A06 alloy ultra-thick plate

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The laser welding technology of ultra-thick plates has been widely applied in many crucial engineering structures, where its safety and stability still suffer from the residual stress brought by the welding temperature.

Evaluation of a self-equilibrium cutting strategy for the contour method of residual stress measurement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
An assessment of cutting-induced plasticity (CIP) is performed, by finite element (FE) prediction of the plastic strain accumulation along the cut tip when the EDM wire sections the NeT TG4 weld benchmark specimen along two cutting directions.

A theoretical review of the operation of vibratory stress relief with particular reference to the stabilization of large-scale fabrications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Vibratory stress relief (VSR) is widely used on large welded fabrications to stabilize the structures so that they do not distort during further machining or during operational duty.

s‐Orbital Mediated Metavalent Bonding Enables State‐Of‐The‐Art n‐Type AgBiSe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metavalent bonding (MVB) underpins the exceptional property portfolio of chalcogenides. Typical MVB solids are mainly found in p‐bonded systems. This work reveals that MVB can also be formed with s‐p orbital interactions upon forming a single‐electron σ‐bond, as exemplified in AgBiSe2.
