Effect of welding sequence and direction on angular distortions in butt-welded plates

The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 2011
During arc welding process, non-uniform heating and cooling lead to non-uniform expansion and contraction of the weld and surrounding base metal which result in undesirable residual stresses and distortions in the welded joint. Among different types of welding distortions, angular distortions produced by butt welding of plates are of major concern in ...

Welding-induced alignment distortion in DIP LD packages: effect of laser welding sequence

SPIE Proceedings, 2002
In pigtailing of a single mode fiber to a semiconductor laser for optical communication applications, the tolerance for displacement of the fiber relative to the laser is extremely tight, a submicron movement can often lead to a significant misalignment and thus the reduction in the power coupled into the fiber.

Influence of Welding Sequence on the Welding Residual Distortion for Laser Welded Sandwich Structures Used in Shipbuilding Industry

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
Based on the classical theory of welding structure, the welding residual distortion for laser welded sandwich structure was simulated using finite element method(FEM). The results showed that welding front all and then to back may lead to a relatively high welding residual distortion. The maximum distortion in Z-direction is higher than 0.5mm.

Determination of welding sequence: a neural net approach

Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements, 1990
The problem of determining the welding sequence is one of the problems of combinatorial optimization with multiple objectives. Recently, the technique of solving the Travelling Salesman Problem approximately was proposed which utilizes a neural network.

Sequence Effects on Stochastic Fatigue of Welded Joints

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1991
The influence of small stress ranges on a recently proposed sequencedependent fatigue damage model is examined. The damage model is capable of including sequence effects by taking into account the interaction of neighboring cycles in predicting the fatigue damage accumulation.

Influence of Welding Sequence on Residual Stresses Induced in As-Welded Plug Weld of Low-Carbon Steel Plate

Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2019
Weld distortion is a major issue in splice joint to get a perfect contact between mating parts. The hole in the bolted spliced joints of boiler structure may get dislocated due to error in process. The bolt hole is to be plug-welded for critical applications.

Modelling of Welding Sequences for Minimization of Weld-Induced Distortions and Residual Stresses

2019
In this work, thermal elastic–plastic analysis (TEPA) has been performed to analyse the fillet welded joint to minimize the weld-induced residual stresses and distortions. Various possible welding sequences, considering the start and end positions of the heat source along with their directions of motion, were decided. Those sequences were simulated and

Numerical Simulation of Welding Distortion under Different Sequences

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Finite element software ANSYS was used to study the influence of welding sequences on the distortion generated in the welding process of a Q345 plate with V-groove. The simulation of the welding process consists of sequentially coupled thermal and structural analyses using element birth and death technique.

Welding Sequence Optimization of TA15 Airplane Wall Panels

Materials Science Forum, 2011
TA15 airplane wall panels are used widely in aircraft manufacture, which consist of some reinforced ribs and a motherboard. Therefore, welding sequences of different reinforced ribs directly determine distortion and residual stress distributions of welding wall panels, and then affect the structure service performance. Therefore, it is important to get

Solidification sequences in stainless steel dissimilar alloy welds

Materials Science and Technology, 1991
AbstractA series of laser and gas tungsten arc welds traversing stainless steels of different chemical compositions has been studied, to elucidate the role of austenite or ferrite nucleation and cooling rate on solidification behaviour. It has been found that a steel with a high CrEQ/NiEQ ratio can be induced to solidify as metastable austenite by ...
