Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A novel DMAA/AMPS/VM/IA quadripolymer as a high temperature and salt resistance fluid loss additive for well cementing

open access: yesPetroleum
Cementing in deep and ultra-deep reservoirs often faces the critical challenge of additive degradation in high-temperature environments. Addressing this, 1-vinylimidazole (VM) was incorporated into the copolymerization of N,N-dimethylacrylamide, itaconic

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Impiego del sistema Uro-Quick per l’identificazione di resistenze ben caratterizzate agli antibiotici veicolate da diverse specie batteriche

open access: yesMicrobiologia Medica, 2003
The Uro-Quick system, previously used to carry out antibiotic susceptibility tests directly on urine samples, has been employed for the detection of antibiotic resistance traits that might be not easily detected in well-characterized bacterial species ...

ALGORITHMS OF NEW METHODS FOR MATERIAL WEAR RESISTANCE ESTIMATION [PDF]

open access: yesНаучно-технический вестник информационных технологий, механики и оптики, 2019
Subject of Research. New methods and algorithms for testing and determination of material wear resistance are presented. Various friction pairs have been tested, which made it possible to determine the dependence of the wear resistance of various ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Antimicrobial resistance: A looming threat to public health and global well-being

open access: yesIndian Journal of Community and Family Medicine
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global issue that transcends borders and affects countries at all income levels. Various contributing factors include limited access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene for both humans and animals; inadequate ...
