Embedded WENO : a design method to improve existing WENO schemes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Embedded WENO methods utilize all adjacent smooth substencils to construct a desirable interpolation. Conventional WENO schemes underuse this possibility close to large gradients or discontinuities. Embedded methods based on the WENO schemes of Jiang and Shu [1] and on the WENO-Z scheme of Borges et al. [2] are explicitly constructed.

A Seventh-order Perturbational Weighted Essentially Non-oscillatory Scheme for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws [PDF]

open access: yesAlfarama Journal of Basic & Applied Sciences, 2023
This study presents a modified seventh-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) finite difference scheme based on the numerical perturbation method established in [1].

An Improved Component-Wise WENO-NIP Scheme for Euler System

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
As is well known, due to the spectral decomposition of the Jacobian matrix, the WENO reconstructions in the characteristic-wise fashion (abbreviated as CH-WENO) need much higher computational cost and more complicated implementation than their ...

New Third-Order Finite Volume Unequal-Sized WENO Lagrangian Schemes for Solving Euler Equations

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
In this paper, new third-order finite volume unequal-sized weighted essentially non-oscillatory (US-WENO) Lagrangian schemes are designed to solve Euler equations in two and three dimensions. The spatial reconstruction procedures are implemented by using

A New Mapped WENO Method for Hyperbolic Problems

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
In this study, a new family of rational mapping functions gRM(ω;k,m,s) is introduced for seventh-order WENO schemes. gRM is a more general family of mapping functions, which includes other mapping functions such as gM and gIM as special cases. The mapped

Application of High-Order WENO Scheme in the CFD/FW–H Method to Predict Helicopter Rotor Blade–Vortex Interaction Tonal Noise

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
The accurate prediction of helicopter rotor blade–vortex interaction (BVI) noise is challenging. This paper presents an implementation of the seventh-order improved weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO-Z) scheme for predicting rotor BVI noise using

Fully discrete WENO with double entropy condition for hyperbolic conservation laws

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2023
This paper put forward a new fully discrete scheme construction method – double entropy condition solution formula method. With that, we turn the state-of-the-art semi-discrete WENO + RK scheme into a fully discrete scheme, which is named as Full-WENO. A

New Weighting Strategies for Weno Schemes

open access: yes, 2023
In this article, we propose a modified convex combination of the polynomial reconstructions of odd-order WENO schemes to maintain the central substencil prevalence over the lateral ones in all parts of the solution. New "centered" versions of the classical WENO-Z and its less dissipative counterpart, WENO-Z+, are defined through very simple ...

A New Smoothness Indicator of Adaptive Order Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory Scheme for Hyperbolic Conservation Laws

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
Adaptive order weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme (WENO-AO(5,3)) has increased the computational cost and complexity of the classic fifth-order WENO scheme by introducing a complicated smoothness indicator for fifth-order linear reconstruction ...

WENO schemes on arbitrary mixed-element unstructured meshes in three space dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The paper extends weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) methods to three dimensional mixed-element unstructured meshes, comprising tetrahedral, hexahedral, prismatic and pyramidal elements. Numerical results illustrate the convergence rates and non-
