Oaks and Climate Change: Contrasting Range Responses of Mediterranean and Temperate Quercus Species in the Western Palearctic

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We analyzed past and future range dynamics of six oak (Quercus) species across the western Palearctic using ecological niche models, reconstructing distributions for the Last Glacial Maximum, the present, and two future scenarios. Quantitative metrics of centroid shifts, range limits, and area change revealed that temperate and transition‐zone species ...

Hungary's Current Climate Conditions Converge With the North‐Mediterranean of the 1980s: A Case Study in Mediterranean Ant Species New to Hungary

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Climate change reshapes our environment, affects species distributions, and threatens biodiversity. We show that historical climate of certain Mediterranean ant species' native areas are similar to the contemporary climate of the same ant species' non‐native Hungarian areas/occurrences.

Spatial ecology of Hydropsyche incognita (Trichoptera: Hydropsychidae) in the Carpathians

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2015
Caddisflies are often used in studies on freshwater ecosystem ecology because of their aquatic-dependent larvae. The present study addresses the ecological affinities of larvae of Hydropsyche incognita in terms of the pattern of distribution of this ...
