Mercury cycling during the last glacial period in Arctic Lake El'gygytgyn, NE Russia
ABSTRACT Tectonic processes play a key role in the global mercury (Hg) cycle on geological timescales, by mobilising Hg from deep Earth reservoirs to the surface. These natural fluxes also introduce a dynamic component to the terrestrial Hg cycle that can interact with other environmental signals and influence Hg delivery to sedimentary records.

Assessing plant water status: Part 2 – Non‐destructive and remote sensing approaches
Abstract Precise, real time and non‐destructive assessment of plant water status is important for advancing plant physiological understanding, optimizing water usage, improving crop resilience and supporting precision agriculture in the face of increasingly variable climatic conditions.

We used GPS video camera collar data from barren‐ground caribou in the Porcupine and Western Arctic herds to validate antler‐ and movement‐based methods for estimating annual reproductive metrics. Antler retention was highly accurate for estimating parturition, but the movement methods we tested performed marginally for estimating parturition and ...

Using SAR data for wet snow monitoring [PDF]
Using SAR data for wet snow monitoring Abstract This paper focuses on an existing method of snow information retrieval by means of satellite SAR data. The method was first presented by Malnes and Guneriussen (2002), and has been proven to be capable of ...

Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

Field determination of free water content in wet snow
A field method of determining the free water content of snow by measuring the density to which wet snow can be compacted was investigated. Experimental tests show that there is a good relationship between free water content and compacted density ...

ABSTRACT Aeolian dust source areas are controlled by climate and human activities and are closely associated with land degradation, yet their long‐term evolution under global warming remains insufficiently quantified. An integrated framework that couples a U‐Net segmentation model with Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) was built to map and attribute

Elevation‐dependent soil and plant responses to a decade of warming and species removal
Understanding how ecosystems retain or release carbon under warming is a critical challenge. Dominant plant species, which contribute the most biomass, can mediate ecosystem responses to warming by modifying microclimate and nutrient cycling. To investigate how warming and shifts in plant dominance interact to affect carbon and nutrient dynamics, we ...
