Mesoclimatic origin affects alpine plant germination but not its plasticity
Mountain ecosystems are disproportionately exposed to global warming, which may put alpine plant species in particular at risk. Plant species' migration and persistence depend on successful seed regeneration, with demographic traits such as germination being strongly sensitive to both present and ancestral climate.

Climate warming and plant invasions jointly alter alpine ecosystems, but the mechanisms underlying these interactions remain unclear. A key to predicting ecosystem vulnerability is whether native and invasive species can sustain performance as conditions warm.

Reindeer grazing induces spatial and functional shifts in root systems of boreal pine forests
The spatial distribution of roots, laterally and vertically, is critical for nutrient and water uptake and for driving root‐associated carbon inputs and turnover. Large herbivores, such as reindeer, influence ecosystems belowground by altering aboveground vegetation composition and soil microclimate.

Wet Snow Mapping in Southern Ontario with Sentinel-1A Observations [PDF]
Wet snow is defined as snow with liquid water present in an ice-water mix. It can be an indicator for the onset of the snowmelt period. Knowledge about the extent of wet snow area can be of great importance for the monitoring of seasonal snowmelt runoff ...

Wear‐activated surface engineering of TPU/GNP nanocomposites through improved filler dispersion and interfacial anchoring of functionalized graphene nanoplatelets, leading to finer post‐abrasion textures and enhanced ice traction. ABSTRACT Graphene‐reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites offer a promising route for developing ...

Modeled Subsidence of Permafrost Terrain 2025–2050: North‐Central Alaska
ABSTRACT A large fraction of the Alaska terrain is underlain by regolith that contains excess ice (ice that in volume exceeds the natural pore space). Possible loss of excess ice would lead to ground subsidence, which in turn would disturb and destabilize the ground surface.

ABSTRACT Due to its subsurface nature, permafrost cannot be directly observed with the naked eye or optical remote sensing. Consequently, accurately describing its distribution and thermal state is challenging. This is especially true in vast, remote environments, where obtaining comprehensive field data is demanding or improbable.
