From apex to base: Uncovering spatial metabolic adaptation in Antarctic mosses
Antarctic mosses survive extreme cold, desiccation, UV exposure, and oxidative stress. We analyzed three species by separating apical, middle, and basal zones. Each zone showed distinct metabolite patterns and biological roles, revealing spatial metabolic specialization. The results suggest that whole‐plant survival depends on coordinated contributions

The snowmelt process plays a crucial role in hydrological forecasting, climate change, disaster management, and other related fields. Accurate detection of wet snow distribution and its changes is essential for understanding and modeling the snow melting

Modelling the system behaviour of wet snow avalanches using an expert system approach for risk management on high alpine traffic roads [PDF]
The presented approach describes a model for a rule-based expert system calculating the temporal variability of the release of wet snow avalanches, using the assumption of avalanche triggering without the loading of new snow.

Carrion ecology: concepts, interdisciplinary synthesis, and perspectives
ABSTRACT Carrion is a ubiquitous resource in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, yet it has long been overlooked in ecological research. Over the past two decades, studies on carrion and the many organisms that exploit it have flourished, revealing not only wide‐ranging ecological functions but also significance far beyond ecology.

Stochastically based wet snow mapping with SAR DATA [PDF]
This paper proposes the new method for wet snow mapping using SAR data. It represents a modified version of the existing Nagler's mapping method, based on winter/summer image comparison, which is considered as the classic one. Instead of the existing unique threshold, a variable threshold matrix (function of the local incidence angle for each pixel) is

ABSTRACT During their long evolutionary history, land plants have evolved a range of adaptations to different abiotic stressors. These help explain present‐day diversity and distribution patterns, as well as the potential resilience of natural and agricultural systems to a changing climate. Most previous research has focused on adaptation to individual

Extensive efforts have been made to observe the accumulation and melting of seasonal snow. However, making accurate observations of snow water equivalent (SWE) at global scales is challenging.

Coupled Snow Cover and Avalanche Dynamics Simulations to Evaluate Wet Snow Avalanche Activity [PDF]
We present physics‐based snowpack simulations for four snow seasons with detailed wet snow avalanche activity records. The distributed, spatially explicit simulations using the Alpine3D and SNOWPACK model show that the simulated snowpack in the release areas of documented wet snow avalanches often exhibits its first wetting of the season on the release

Thermal defrosting limits desublimator efficiency in freeze‐drying. This review and case study compares thermal versus mechanical regeneration, links frost properties and external heat transfer to energy demand, and summarizes pilot‐scale scraping results enabling single‐unit, continuous lyophilization.
