Water State of Soil Experienced Wetting–Drying Cycles

Indian Geotechnical Journal, 2020
Owing to rainfall and evaporation in nature’s water succession, clay soil inevitably experiences wetting–drying cycles. In the present study, experiments are carried out to investigate variations in the water state (i.e., adsorbed and bulk) during the wetting process and again after experiencing 0–4 wetting–drying cycles.

Modelling of convection, diffusion and binding of chlorides in concrete during wetting-drying cycles

Marine Structures, 2022
– Moisture convection in concrete is an important factor affecting the chloride diffusion in concrete. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the transport of moisture, carbon dioxide and chloride ions in concrete when subjected to wetting and ...

Effects of wetting-drying cycles and desiccation cracks on mechanical behavior of an unsaturated soil

, 2020
The effects of wetting-drying (W-D) cycles on the desiccation-induced cracking of a fat clay (CH) as well as the role of soil suction in the evolution of soil strength, were investigated.

Estimating soil porosity and pore size distribution changes due to wetting-drying cycles by morphometric image analysis

, 2021
Porous systems such as soils tend to present great complexity when analyzed at the micrometer-scale. Processes such as tillage and repeated wetting and drying (W-D) cycles tend to continuously alter the structure of the soil.

Enhancing Soil Resilience to Climatic Wetting‐Drying Cycles Through a Bio‐Mediated Approach

Journal of Geophysical Research - Earth Surface
Climatic wetting‐drying cycles exacerbated by climate change can trigger several weakening mechanisms in surface soils, potentially leading to instability and failure of slopes and earthen structures.

Effect of freeze–thaw and wetting–drying cycles on the CBR, shear strength, stiffness and permanent deformation of crushed waste rocks

International Journal on Road Materials and Pavement Design, 2022
Waste rocks produced from mining operations are widely reused for the construction of mine haul roads. However, seasonal changes expose mining facilities to repeated freeze–thaw and wetting–drying cycles which can significantly affect the geotechnical ...
