Experimental Investigation of the Physical Properties and Microstructure of Slate under Wetting and Drying Cycles Using Micro-CT and Ultrasonic Wave Velocity Tests

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Cyclic wetting and drying processes have been considered as important factors that accelerate the weathering process and have deteriorative effects on rock properties.

Triaxial shear behavior of basalt fiber reinforced loess under drying−wetting cycles

open access: yesRock and Soil Mechanics, 2022
In this paper, the digital image based triaxial shear test, computed tomography (CT) scanning test and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) test were employed to investigate triaxial shear behavior and microstructure evolution of basalt fiber reinforced ...

Impact of wetting/drying cycles on the hydromechanical behaviour of a treated soil [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
The positive effects of lime or cement treatment could be altered by weathering in the very long term. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to examine the impact of wetting/drying cycles on the strength and the hydraulic conductivity of a ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

The Strength Behavior and Desiccation Crack Development of Silty Clay Subjected to Wetting–Drying Cycles

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2022
It is commonly accepted that wetting–drying cycles have an effect on the soil strength behavior. Crack development in soil is observed by many engineers during wetting–drying cycles, which may give a good explanation for the change in soil strength.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Experimental study on the disintegration of granite residual soil under the combined influence of wetting–drying cycles and acid rain

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2019
Granite residual soil has obvious disintegration characteristics, resulting in serious water and soil losses in South China. There is a lack of studies on the disintegration of granite residual soil.

Durability of Photocatalytic Cement after Nitric Oxide-Wet-Dry Cycling [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Korea Institute of Building Construction, 2014
Photocatalytic cement has been receiving attention due to its high oxidation power that reduces nitrogen oxide, thus contributing to a clean atmospheric environment. However, there has not yet been a thorough investigation on the effect of photocatalytic reactions on the durability of cementitious material, the parent material.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Damage Features of Altered Rock Subjected to Drying-Wetting Cycles

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
An abandoned open pit was used as a tailing pond for a concentrating mill, with the height of the water surface subject to cyclic fluctuation. The effects of drying and wetting cycles on the mechanical parameters of pit rock were tested.
