Nanostructured and Oriented Metal-Organic Framework Films enabling Extreme Surface Wetting Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Herein, we report on the synthesis of highly oriented and nanostructured metal-organic framework (MOF) films featuring extreme surface wetting properties.

Rapidly Solidified High‐Strength Invar 36 Prepared by Planar‐Flow Melt Spinning

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The Invar 36 alloy was rapidly solidified using the planar‐flow melt‐spinning technique. Ribbon samples with thicknesses ranging from 20 to 160 mm were produced. As the grain size of the ribbon decreased to sub‐micron levels, the hardness increased by more than 2 times.

Role of Plasma Surface Treatments on Wetting and Adhesion

open access: yes, 2009
There are many current and emerging wetting and adhesion issues which require an additional surface processing to enhance interfacial surface properties.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Morphology, Transport, and Dynamics of Protein Adsorption in Open‐Cell Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stainless steel (SS) open‐cell foams are shown to adsorb more protein per unit area than previously reported 316L SS and chromium oxide surfaces under static and flow conditions. An integrated approach combining 3D pore imaging, flow simulation, and protein adsorption experiments characterizes the foam’s performance.

Wetting Model of Asphalt on the Aggregate Surface and Its Effect Factors

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2019
Wetting is the process where asphalt infiltrates into the aggregate surface, which is important for the bonding between asphalt and aggregates. In this paper, the aggregate surface textures were simplified to V shape, and a wetting model was established ...

Feasibility and Limitations of the Advanced Replica Process for Bioactive Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Periodic 3D‐printed Kelvin‐cell templates enable a controlled advanced replica process for fabricating highly porous glass lattices. Across P45K9, 45S5, and 13–93, material‐dependent differences in coating, burnout, and shrinkage lead to distinct strut morphologies, while comparable final porosities of 83%–88% are retained.

Air entrainment in angled dip coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
YesThe coating flow examined here, labelled angled dip coating, is that where a substrate enters a pool of liquid forming an angle ß with the vertical so that it intersects the liquid along a wetting line which is not perpendicular to the direction of ...
