Abstract Two experiments were conducted to assess the feeding value of ammoniated and untreated flax straw, wheat straw and wheat chaff in comparison to a mixed bromegrass/alfalfa hay. Anhydrous ammonia was applied to the crop residues at the rate of 35 kg t −1 dry matter.
