Urban Heat and Spatial Statistics, Toward Sustainable Cities and Society: A PRISMA‐Based Systematic Review and Empirical Assessment (2020–2025)

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the past few decades, the intensification of global warming has brought increased attention to urban thermal dynamics, particularly regarding Land Surface Temperature (LST) and the Urban Surface Heat Island (SUHI) effect. This study conducts a systematic literature review alongside a bibliometric analysis of 123 peer‐reviewed articles ...

Virtual soil calibration for wheel–soil interaction simulations using the discrete-element method

open access: yesCanadian Aeronautics and Space Journal, 2011
Lunar mobility studies require a precise knowledge of the geotechnical properties of the lunar soil when it comes to design-adapted and efficient-traction systems. The remarkable progress of computers since the Apollo missions allows direct testing of the performance of new design prototypes through simulations of soil-structure interactions using the ...

Pathways for Value Chains to Strengthen Sustainable Development in Mountain Regions: A European Cross‐Case Analysis Based on Stakeholders' Perceptions

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mountain areas are hotspots of high natural and cultural value, but they face sustainability challenges. This research offers a quantitative cross‐case analysis of 21 case studies from mountain regions across 14 European countries, examining how local stakeholders perceive the contribution of mountain value chains to sustainable development ...

Sampling, Mobility, and Anchoring in Small‐Body Sampling Robots: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
Small‐body sampling robots are exploration systems that perform contact, sampling, and stable operations on microgravity bodies such as asteroids and comets. The authors review representative robot architectures and key technologies, focusing on the mechanisms, evolution, and coupling of sampling, mobility, and anchoring.

Dynamic Simulation Tool Development for Planetary Rovers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2008
A dynamic computer simulator was developed to study planetary rover mobility. The simulator was validated for step-obstacle negotiation by comparing simulation results with a quasi-static analysis of a rockerbogie suspension.

Logarithmic rate dependence in deforming granular materials

open access: yes, 2002
Rate-independence for stresses within a granular material is a basic tenet of many models for slow dense granular flows. By contrast, logarithmic rate dependence of stresses is found in solid-on-solid friction, in geological settings, and elsewhere.

Iowa Population Exposures to Metals and Metalloids in Well Water

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Previous Iowa studies suggest low levels and chronic arsenic exposures are associated with prostate cancer. The rural Iowa population heavily relies on private wells for drinking water resources and thus is vulnerable to contaminants such as heavy metals found in well water.

Finding Mr. Right: Housing Quality Affects Male Mouse Attractiveness to Females, With Implications for Conservation Captive Breeding

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
Housing quality affects male mouse attractiveness to females ABSTRACT Females generally prefer mates with traits indicating low stress (e.g., large size; good health). In captivity, stress from suboptimal housing might therefore reduce male attractiveness.
