A Bionic Walking Wheel for Enhanced Trafficability in Paddy Fields with Muddy Soil

open access: yesBiomimetics
To improve wheel trafficability in soft and muddy soils such as paddy fields, a bionic walking wheel is designed based on the structural morphology and movement mode of the feet of waders living in marshes and mudflats, similar to the muddy soil of paddy

Host, vector, and parasite dynamics: exploring intrinsic and extrinsic factors shaping tick‐borne filarial nematode transmission

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tick‐borne filarial nematodes are a complex and understudied group of parasites that rely on ticks for transmission in vertebrates. This review examines how intrinsic and extrinsic factors may influence the successful transmission of filarial nematodes in tick vectors, drawing insights from extensively studied haematophagous dipteran vector ...

Study on locomotion systems of lunar exploration roverson loose soil

open access: yesStudies in Science and Technology, 2012
In future lunar exploration missions, lunar rovers are required to traverse over very rough terrain. On the lunar surface, there are covered with soils, which are named regolith. Regolith is easy to slide.

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.

Wavelet neural network applied for prognostication of contact pressure between soil and driving wheel

open access: yesInformation Processing in Agriculture, 2014
This paper describes the measurement of contact pressure in the context of wheel–terrain interaction as affected by wheel load and tire inflation pressure when fusion of the wavelet transform with the back-propagation (BP) neural network is applied to ...

Rethinking Climate Change on the Role of Human Power Generation, Alternative Perspectives, Potential Solutions, and a Plea for Action

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
All energy matters Let us broaden the discussion on solutions to climate change. Greenhouse gases have upset the delicate equilibrium of the Earth's energy balance. Consequently, all sources of heat affect the temperature of the Earth. Although the amount of additional heat generated by humans is a fraction of that produced by the sun, it is generated ...

Investigation on hard‐rock breaking performance and auxiliary mechanism of picks assisted with both‐sided high‐pressure water jets

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.
