Optothermal dynamics in whispering-gallery microresonators [PDF]
Optical microresonators: Investigating light’s tiny whispers Optical whispering-gallery mode microresonators can trap light in a highly confined volume, similar to the behavior of sound waves in the famous whispering gallery of St Paul’s Cathedral ...

On the Whispering-Gallery phenomenon [PDF]
The theory of the curious and interesting effects observed in the Whispering Gallery at the base of the dome in St. Paul’s Cathedral was discussed long ago by the late Lord Rayleigh in his treatise on Sound, and more fully, from the point of view of wave-propagation, in two recent papers.

Whispering Gallery Mode Thermometry [PDF]
This paper presents a state-of-the-art whispering gallery mode (WGM) thermometer system, which could replace platinum resistance thermometers currently used in many industrial applications, thus overcoming some of their well-known limitations and their ...

Whispering-gallery and Luneburg-lens effects in a beam-fed circularly-layered dielectric cylinder [PDF]
The whispering-gallery mode (WGM) excitation and Luneburg lens (LL) effect are studied for a lossy circularly-layered dielectric cylinder illuminated by a beam field. The latter is simulated by the Complex Source-Point (CSP) beam. Exact series solution to the wave scattering problem is used to obtain the far-field patterns and directivity.

Whispering-Gallery Sensors. [PDF]
Optical whispering gallery mode (WGM) microresonators, confining resonant photons in a microscale resonator for long periods of time, could strongly enhance light-matter interaction, making it an ideal platform for all kinds of sensors. In this paper, an overview of optical sensors based on WGM microresonators is comprehensively summarized.

Whispering Gallery‐Mode Microdroplet Tensiometry [PDF]
Droplets are ideally suited to support high‐Q‐factor whispering gallery modes (WGMs) due to their perfectly smooth surface. WGMs enable extremely precise measurements of the droplet properties such as size and shape.

Tunable Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators for Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics [PDF]
We theoretically study the properties of highly prolate shaped dielectric microresonators. Such resonators sustain whispering gallery modes that exhibit two spatially well separated regions with enhanced field strength. The field per photon on the resonator surface is significantly higher than e.g. for equatorial whispering gallery modes in microsphere
