White-light whispering gallery mode resonators
Optics Letters, 2006We propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally white-light whispering gallery mode resonators. These resonators have essentially a continuous modal spectrum accompanied by ultrahigh-Q frequency-independent quality factors. Applications of the resonators for ringdown spectroscopy and light modulation are discussed.

Dispersion compensation in whispering-gallery modes
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2003We show that manipulation by a spatial profile of the refractive index of a circularly symmetric dielectric cavity results in a novel way of fine tuning frequency separations as well as spatial localizations of high-Q whispering-gallery modes excited in the cavity.

Whispering Gallery Mode Microresonators for Biosensing
Advances in Science and Technology, 2012In the field of sensing, WGM microresonators are receiving a growing interest as optical structures suitable for the realization of miniature sensors with high sensitivity. When properly excited, WGM microresonators are able to strongly confine light, by means of total internal reflection, along the equatorial plane near their spherical surface.

Aptamer Based Whispering Gallery Mode Biosensor
2013Whispering gallery mode resonators (WGMR), in the form of optical silica microspheres, have been recently proposed as an efficient tool for the realisation of optical biosensors. A crucial step for producing reliable biosensors is their surface functionalization. In this work we report a functionalization process based on the use of a DNA aptamer. Also

Whispering Gallery Mode Biosensor
2010None of civilization’s socio-political catastrophes (e.g. world wars) have caused an equivalent destructive effect on the world’s population as biological pandemics [1]. Exponentially growing pathogens are difficult to contain and eliminate unless they can be detected early on.

Whispering-gallery mode microdisk lasers
Applied Physics Letters, 1992A new microlaser design based on the high-reflectivity whispering-gallery modes around the edge of a thin semiconductor microdisk is described and initial experimental results are presented. Optical confinement within the thin disk plane results in a microresonator with potential for single-mode, ultralow threshold lasers.

Whispering-gallery laser resonators. I. Diffraction of whispering-gallery modes
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1991Whispering-gallery optics for use at soft X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths are examined for their potential applications in laser resonators. An examination is made of beam divergence at the exit of a whispering gallery resonator. The properties of whispering-gallery eigenmodes are reviewed, and the features of their Fourier transforms ...

Whispering gallery mode sensors: erratum
Advances in Optics and Photonics, 2015We present an erratum to correct inadvertent typographical errors in our paper [Adv. Opt. Photon.7, 168 (2015)AOPAC71943-820610.1364/AOP.7.000168] and to update Fig. 7 therein following a revised version from the original authors.

Plasmon-enhanced whispering gallery mode biosensing
2012 Photonics Global Conference (PGC), 2012Whispering gallery mode (WGM) biosensors derive their unprecedented sensitivity for label-free detection of biomolecules from the high-quality (Q) factor of an optical resonance phenomenon. Plasmonic excitations in metal nanostructures which are able to localize the WGM field at the target binding site can further enhance sensitivity by local electric ...

Whispering gallery mode pressure sensing
SPIE Proceedings, 2012Optical resonances of microresonators, also known as whispering gallery modes, are attracting considerable interest as highly sensitive measuring devices with a variety of applications. Such resonators can be used for pressure, force or strain measurement.
