From Whispering Gallery Mode Resonators to Biochemical Sensors.

ACS Sensors, 2023
Optical biosensors are frontrunners for the rapid and real-time detection of analytes, particularly for low concentrations. Among them, whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators have recently attracted a growing focus due to their robust optomechanical ...

Whispering Gallery Mode Microresonators for Biosensing [PDF]

open access: possibleAdvances in Science and Technology, 2012
In the field of sensing, WGM microresonators are receiving a growing interest as optical structures suitable for the realization of miniature sensors with high sensitivity. When properly excited, WGM microresonators are able to strongly confine light, by means of total internal reflection, along the equatorial plane near their spherical surface.

Surface whispering-gallery mode

EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2011
Metamaterials can exhibit electromagnetic characteristics beyond those found in nature. In this letter, we demonstrate that Surface Whispering-gallery mode (SWGM) can be generated by coating a microresonator with a layer of metamaterials. Different from WGM, whose waves are mostly confined within the microresonator, the SWGM propagate at the interface ...

Nonlinear Whispering Gallery Modes

Physical Review Letters, 1999
The stationary lasing of the modes in a microdisk is formulated as a nonlinear eigenvalue problem for a nonlinear Maxwell equation. It is shown that whispering gallery modes can be obtained as stationary lasing solutions with finite pumping thresholds.

Photonic Wavepacket in Whispering-Gallery Modes

The Thirteenth International Conference on Ultrafast Phenomena, 2002
We have generated a wavepacket in optical whispering-gallery modes of a dielectric sphere and observed its round trip motion along the periphery. The data is compared with the calculation based on a Mie scattering theory.
