Independent Risk Factors for Postoperative Intestinal Obstruction and Clinical Outcomes in Simultaneous Pancreas‐Kidney Transplantation Recipients

open access: yesOrgan Medicine, EarlyView.
Intestinal obstruction (IO) is an important but underexplored complication following simultaneous pancreas‐kidney transplantation (SPKT) and is associated with considerable morbidity and both clinical and economic burdens. In this single‐center cohort study, perioperative parameters, including demographic characteristics, surgical variables, and ...

Characteristics, properties and limitations of per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and fluoropolymers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
An overview and categorization of man‐made per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) including low‐molar‐mass and high‐molar‐mass fluorochemicals, and their international regulations is presented. Though certain PFASs are toxic, bioaccumulative and cross the human cellular membranes, others, such as fluoropolymers, are safe, reliable and involved in ...

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.

Head‐to‐Head Comparison of Four Ultrasound Elastography Techniques in Detecting Advanced Fibrosis

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
Elastography is an important noninvasive method for diagnosing advanced fibrosis (AF); however, evidence remains insufficient, particularly regarding acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) techniques. This prospective mulitcenter study concludes that vibration controlled transient elastography (VCTE) demonstrates superior diagnostic performance to ...
