Cardiac Anomalies in Two White-Tailed Eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) in Sweden

open access: yesJournal of Wildlife Diseases, 2021
Severe cardiomegaly with an atrial septal defect was discovered during necropsy of a subadult White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) found dead in the wild. A thin membrane composed of fibromuscular tissue separated the left atrium into two chambers, most consistent with that described for cor triatriatum sinister (CTS) in other species.

White-Tailed Eagle Algorithm for Global Optimization and Low-Cost and Low-CO2 Emission Design of Retaining Structures

open access: yesSustainability, 2022
This study proposes a new metaheuristic optimization algorithm, namely the white-tailed eagle algorithm (WEA), for global optimization and optimum design of retaining structures.

Molecular identification of Sarcocystis wobeseri-like parasites in a new intermediate host species, the white-tailed sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology Research, 2021
A reintroduced white-tailed sea eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) in moderate body condition was found dead and submitted for post-mortem examination. There were no signs of disease on gross pathological examination.

Persistent pollutants in the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) in the Federal Republic of Germany

open access: yesBiological Conservation, 1972
A study was made of the possible relationship between persistent pollutants and the decline in reproductive success of the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) in Schleswig Holstein, Federal Republic of Germany.

Lead poisoning and other human-related factors cause significant mortality in white-tailed eagles [PDF]

open access: yesAmbio, 2018
The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) suffered a severe population decline due to environmental pollutants in the Baltic Sea area ca. 50 years ago but has since been recovering. The main threats for the white-tailed eagle in Finland are now often

Molecular identification of traces from the White-tailed Sea Eagle

Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, 2012
Over the preceeding decades, after periods of dramatic decline and extinction in many parts of Europe, the White-tailed Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) has re-colonized traditional breeding areas. However, this large apex predator remains threatened, not only by the bioaccumulation of environmental pollutants, but also by targeted poisoning and ...

White-Tailed Sea Eagle—Summary and Conclusions

2017
Aim of the project was to investigate to what extent white-tailed sea eagles fly near wind turbines, to estimate the collision risks and to make proposals on how to reduce collisions.

Bald Eagle Predation of a White-Tailed Deer Fawn

Northeastern Naturalist, 2011
Abstract Haliaeetus leucocephalus (Bald Eagle) is an adaptable predatory bird that commonly captures live prey, but regularly scavenges. Large mammalian prey (e.g., Odocoileus virginianus [White-tailed Deer]) have been observed in Bald Eagle diets, but were considered scavenged.
