Citizen science reveals host‐switching in louse flies and keds (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) during a period of anthropogenic change

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 305-322, June 2026.
A study of louse flies in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, and Ireland found 212 different interactions between Hippoboscidae and their hosts, of which 70 were previously unrecorded. No louse flies were found on aquatic species of birds. Host‐switching to gulls (Laridae) has occurred during a period in which these species have started relying on ...

Exercise serum promotes DNA damage repair and remodels gene expression in colon cancer cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 10, Page 2641-2649, 15 May 2026.
What's New? Exercise releases bioactive molecules into the bloodstream that can directly slow cancer cell growth. In colon cancer, this may help limit disease progression. Here, using colon cancer cells, the authors investigated the effects of exercise‐conditioned human serum on DNA repair mechanisms. Notably, acute exercise in humans elicited systemic

Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Versus Non‐Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer: The Impact of Pd and Pt Complexes on Basal‐Like Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 21, Issue 9, 14 May 2026.
The anticancer activity of the complexes Pd3Spd2, Pt3Spd2, Pt2Put2(NH3)4 and Pd2Put2 against human TNBC, non‐TNBC and healthy breast cells was evaluated. The metabolic impact of the most promising metal complexes—Pd3Spd2 and Pt2Put2(NH3)4—was further assessed using vibrational microspectroscopies, providing detailed insights into the drug‐induced ...

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

A Novel Function of Nonadecanoic Acid in Regulating Glucose Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
This study identifies the odd‐chain fatty acid C19:0 as an endogenous ligand of GPR120 that promotes glucose homeostasis via Gαq signaling. In obesity, elevated palmitic acid suppresses endogenous C19:0 production through a miRNA–PPARα–HACL1 pathway, offering a promising direction for understanding the role of OCFAs in human health.
