A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

White Blood Cell Subtypes Are Associated with a Greater Long-Term Risk of Death after Acute Myocardial Infarction.

open access: yesTexas Heart Institute Journal, 2017
We evaluated the association between white blood cell counts and long-term mortality rates in 2,129 patients (mean age, 65.3 ± 13.5 yr; 69% men) who had survived acute myocardial infarction.

The acute exercise response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and their bioenergetic function in women with high and low systemic estradiol levels

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Decrease in the systemic estradiol (E2) levels caused by menopause has been associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. We have previously shown that E2 level is associated with the systemic response to an acute bout of endurance ...

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Fish red blood cells express immune genes and responses

open access: yesAquaculture and Fisheries, 2018
The erythrocytes or red blood cells (RBCs) and leucocytes or white blood cells (WBCs) are the most abundant cell types in the circulatory system of vertebrates. The RBCs are responsible for gas exchange while WBCs are solely involved with immunity.

Analysis of Chemotaxis in White Blood Cells

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1971
We wish to report the development of an assay system for the study of white blood cells in vitro. With this system we have demonstrated that a yet unidentified substance found in red blood cell membranes and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) cause the chemotactic response in white blood cells.

MiR‐513a promotes human erythroid differentiation by modulating c‐Jun

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
During early human erythropoiesis, miR‐513a promoted erythroid differentiation in primary human CD34+ hematopoietic stem‐progenitor cells and human TF‐1 erythroleukemic cells by indirectly decreasing c‐Jun and phospho‐c‐Jun expression, which are associated with increased GATA1 expression.

Blood cell image segmentation and classification: a systematic review [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ Computer Science
Background Blood diseases such as leukemia, anemia, lymphoma, and thalassemia are hematological disorders that relate to abnormalities in the morphology and concentration of blood elements, specifically white blood cells (WBC) and red blood cells (RBC ...

Influence of method of venous blood collection on the blood cell count determination result

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction : The preanalytical phase of laboratory testing, including collecting of the material, is one of the most important factors affecting the quality of the results of analyzes.
