White Blood Cell Transfusions

Pediatrics, 1985
We recently reviewed the paper by Cairo et al on leukocyte transfusions for sepsis at our Pediatric Journal Club and several questions arose. The enrollment criteria suggest that all eligible infants were included, yet it is difficult to believe that only nine infants with clinical deterioration and negative cultures were found compared ...

Meta‐analysis of total and differential white blood cell counts in schizophrenia

Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica, 2019

Separation of White Blood Cells

Nature, 1964
A CONVENIENT way of obtaining white cells from whole blood is simply to allow EDTA-blood to settle in siliconized glasses and then pipette off the leucocyte-rich supernatant after 1.5 h or more. A more rapid separation occurs when agents which aggregate erythrocytes are added to the blood1. The effect of these agents may be utilized even without mixing

White Blood Cell Antibodies

Archives of Surgery, 1966
LEUKOCYTES are known to carry transplantation antigens both in animals 1 and in man. 2,3 Should transfusions of blood from one individual to another, therefore, be considered as a homograft and to what extent do blood transfusions sensitize for a subsequent graft?

Labelled white blood cells

Agents and Actions, 1994
For imaging inflammation, white cells can be labelled with In-111 tropolonate or Tc-99m HMPAO, both of which are lipophilic complexes capable of penetrating etrating cell membranes. Mixed white cells are satisfactory for routine clinical use although in some circumstances, such as for quantitative studies, pure granulocytes are preferable.
