In the matter of white light (WL) generation, considerable scientific interest has been recently devoted to the studies of carbon materials where laser light or electrical current are used for incandescence or light emission. Experiments have been performed on a number of structures, including carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene, and graphene QDs ...

A fourth, white traffic light could be the hottest new concept in traffic management right now. Even if the idea never reaches full adoption, it nevertheless brings new focus to the challenge of integrating the flow of CAVs with manually driven vehicles on our roads

Color Research & Application, 2011
AbstractWhite is a color sensation absent hue. Manufacturers describe practical light sources used for illumination as tinted warm‐white or cool‐white, but these informal designations do not seem to be based upon measured human color perceptions of white illumination.

White light-in-flight holography
Applied Optics, 1985A two-step approach to white-light holography is presented where the first step produces a light-in-flight hologram. The second step is classical recording of the real pseudoscopic image across a new holographic plate. Reconstruction is provided in white light. As a final result, a color coded presentation is obtained with a rainbow appearance encoding

Optical binding in white light
Optics Letters, 2015We experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, binding of aerosols of various sizes and shapes in white light. The optomechancial interaction between particles is long range and is in the underdamped regime. Incoherency allows mitigation of interference fringes to enable monotonically changing the distance between particles from 60 μm to contact ...

The White Light Supercontinuum Is Indeed an Ultrafast White Light Laser
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1999We identify the white light supercontinuum generated by femtosecond Ti-sapphire laser pulses as an ultrafast white light laser because the relative coherence lengths of all the wavelength components of the supercontinuum are essentially the same as that of the laser pulse when compared to an incoherent white light source.

Applied Physics B Photophysics and Laser Chemistry, 1992
The performances of white light cooling are shortly reviewed and discussed. The velocity distributions modified by the cooling laser are calculated under different boundary conditions and a new experimental approach, which permits to obtain a sharp edge laser bandwidth, is taken into consideration.

The whiteness of things and light scattering
Physics Education, 2009We discuss some simple experiments dealing with intriguing properties of light and its interaction with matter. In particular, we show how to emphasize that light reflection, refraction and scattering can provide a proper, physical description of human perception of the 'colour' white.

White-Light Fourier Holography
SPIE Proceedings, 1985Abstract This paper describes a technique for generating broad spectral band Fourier holograms with an encoded white light source. Since this technique utilizes primary white-light construction and reconstruction process, it is quite suitable for color Fourier hologram image reconstruction. Experimental results are also given.

Cosinusoidal transforms in white light
Applied Optics, 1984Theory and techniques of white light interferometry have been studied to devise an optoelectronic hybrid for diffraction pattern sampling. For an incoherently illuminated input scene, we obtain an output intensity that is the 2-D spatial cosine transform of the input plus a bias term.
