Cortical thickness, gray matter volume, and white matter anisotropy and diffusivity in schizophrenia

Neuroradiology, 2011
The study was conducted to evaluate simultaneously gray matter changes and white matter changes in patients with schizophrenia.Cortical thickness, gray matter volume, and white matter anisotropy and diffusivity changes in schizophrenic patients (n = 21) were assessed relative to age-, gender-, and parental socioeconomic status-matched healthy controls (

Alterations of Gray Matter Volume and White Matter Integrity in Maternal Deprivation Monkeys

Neuroscience, 2018
Maternal deprivation (MD) in rhesus monkeys has been demonstrated to be an effective model to mimic early adversity in humans because of the close phylogenetic similarity affinity. Although behavioral and hormonal abnormalities have been observed in MD monkeys, the neurobiological underpinning of the long-term deleterious effect of MD on monkeys is ...

Smaller frontal lobe white matter volumes in depressed adolescents

Biological Psychiatry, 2002
Prior studies have demonstrated reduced frontal lobe volumes in depressed adolescents. In this study, frontal lobe gray and white matter volumes in adolescents with major depressive disorder were evaluated.Nineteen depressed and thirty-eight healthy comparison adolescents were recruited for a magnetic resonance imaging study. Images were segmented into

White Matter Volume and Cognitive Dysfunction in Early Huntington's Disease

Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, 2005
Structural abnormalities of the striatum and cognitive impairments have consistently been shown in patients with Huntington's disease (HD). Fewer studies have examined other cerebral structures in early HD and potential associations with cognition.Ten patients with early HD and 10 matched control subjects underwent magnetic resonance imaging to provide

Voxelwise evaluation of white matter volumes in first-episode psychosis

Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging, 2012
The occurrence of white matter (WM) abnormalities in psychotic disorders has been suggested by several studies investigating brain pathology and diffusion tensor measures, but evidence assessing regional WM morphometry is still scarce and conflicting. In the present study, 122 individuals with first-episode psychosis (FEP) (62 fulfilling criteria for ...

White matter volume is decreased in the brain of patients with neuromyelitis optica

European Journal of Neurology, 2012
BackgroundNeuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an inflammatory disease involving predominantly the spinal cord and optic nerves. Whether patients with NMO have a loss in white or grey matter (GM) volumes remains to be determined.MethodsThirty patients with NMO, 30 healthy subjects matched for age and gender, 21 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and 20 ...

Reduced White Matter Volume of the Caudate Nucleus in Patients with Schizophrenia

Neuropsychobiology, 2004
To examine volumetric abnormality, the caudate nucleus was measured in patients with schizophrenia and healthy subjects using magnetic resonance imaging. The absolute and relative volumes of white matter in the caudate nucleus were found to be significantly smaller in patients with schizophrenia compared to those in healthy subjects.
