On the Formation of White‐Spot Defects in a Superalloy VAR Ingot
Advanced Engineering Materials, 2011AbstractFor the production of nickel‐based superalloys for the aerospace industry, strict control of the macrostructure of the product is necessary to avoid the appearance of potentially fatal defects. Our study focuses on the prevention of “white spots” in the alloy IN 718.

Diagnosis of White Spot Defects Drived from Gear Wheel Carbonization and its Corresponding Measures
Advanced Materials Research, 2011To account for the adverse effects of white spot defects onto the performance of gear wheel, physicochemical properties are studied based on the conducted surface carbonization experiment. Further, the geneses for white spot defects are discussed and the solutions to this problem are also clarified.

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures
ABSTRACT Dirty white spots (DWSs) in superalloys have caused aviation accidents, posing a challenge to aviation safety and reliability. However, the influence of DWS defects on the fatigue performance of superalloy components remains unclear, primarily because naturally occurring DWS defects are extremely rare.

In order to clarify the role of haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in bone-marrow toxicity induced by 1,3-butadiene, we examined the effects of its primary metabolite, 3,4-epoxybutene, on the cytokine response of these cells from C57B1/6 mice. Pretreatment with epoxybutene in vitro suppressed recombinant interleukin-3-stimulated colony formation ...
