PERTUSSIS IN INFANTS

open access: yesДетские инфекции (Москва), 2018
We observed 209 children the first year of life, admitted to inpatient treatment with a diagnosis of whooping cough (pertussis). In 41 patients there was the need for mechanical ventilation in treatment.

The Effect of Maternal Pertussis Vaccination on Neonatal Health Outcomes in the Dutch Pregnancy Drug Register

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 118, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The currently high pertussis‐related morbidity and mortality among infants has led to increased international attention for pertussis vaccination during pregnancy. We studied the safety of maternal pertussis vaccination in the Netherlands with respect to neonatal health. Methods Data from the cohort the Dutch Pregnancy Drug Register

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 20, 9 March 2026.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.

Late Pregnancy Antiseizure Medication Exposure and Offspring Neurodevelopmental Risk: A Multi‐Child Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, Volume 99, Issue 3, Page 761-776, March 2026.
Objective Antiseizure medication (ASM) use during pregnancy has increased over the past decade. However, evidence linking prenatal ASM exposure to neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) in offspring remains inconsistent. This study evaluated whether prenatal ASM exposure increases the risk of NDDs in children.

Hypercapnia as a Key Mechanism in the Development of Pulmonary Hypertension in Malignant Pertussis: A Case Report

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Despite intensive care advances, malignant pertussis (MP) remains highly lethal. Our case suggests that hypercapnia‐induced pulmonary vasoconstriction may play a reversible role in MP pathophysiology. Thus, targeting hypercapnia control could represent a promising therapeutic approach in managing this severe complication.

Ouabain‐induced hypertension in rats: Mechanisms, variability and translational implications

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 3, Page 653-673, 1 March 2026.
Abstract Ouabain‐induced hypertension is a multifactorial and condition‐dependent phenomenon involving coordinated actions across vascular, renal and central nervous system pathways. At the vascular level, ouabain inhibits Na⁺/K⁺‐ATPase, particularly the α2‐isoform, leading to elevated intracellular Ca2⁺, enhanced vasoconstriction and structural ...

Avian influenza overview December 2025–February 2026

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Between 29 November 2025 and 27 February 2026, 2514 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A(H5) virus detections were reported in domestic (406) and wild (2108) birds in 32 countries in Europe. Albeit still at high levels after the peak was reached at the beginning of the current reporting period, the weekly number of detections has since ...
