A study to determine significant titre-values of widal test in the diagnosis of enteric fever for a population of north Kerala, India [PDF]

open access: yesAl Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences, 2014
Objectives: To determine the baseline Widal titres of a study population and to propose titre-values of significance in the diagnosis of enteric fever.

Fever of Unknown Origin Due to Liver Tuberculosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Infection, especially extra pulmonary tuberculosis, remain the leading cause of fever of unknown origin (FUO). FUO is defined as temperature higher than 38.3 ºC with duration of fever of more than 3 weeks.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Modifications Influencing Widal Test Reactivity in a Novel Microplate Assay

open access: yesPolish Journal of Microbiology, 2012
Reliability of the Widal tube agglutination test has been the subject of many controversies over the years. This study was performed to assess the effect of certain modifications on the performance of Widal test in a novel microplate assay. Sera from 37 patients (21 males; 16 females) (mean age 28 +/- 7 years) were tested in the Immunology Unit at King

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The value of the Widal test in the diagnosis of Prolonged Septicemic Salmonellosis

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 1985
Twenty patients with prolonged septicemic salmonellosis (Group 1) and 20 with schistosomiasis mansoni (Group 2) were selected for this study. In both groups, the Widal test was done using antigens of the sample Ty 901 (S. typhi).

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Utilization and value of Widal test in febrile children

open access: yesNigerian Journal of Paediatrics
Summary: Rising cost of medical care in Nigeria prompted us to undertake a retrospective study of the utilization and value of the Widal test in 973 febrile children, in whom a total of 1135 of this test was performed.
