Visualisation of latent fingerprint on wild bird eggshells by alternate light sources following superglue fuming [PDF]
The theft of the eggs of endangered or protected species of bird, and subsequent reduction in wildlife population, is a significant problem worldwide. Detection rates are comparatively low towards this type of crime and fingerprinting of egg shells is ...

TECTB Variants Reveal Tectorial Membrane Vulnerability in Dominant Non‐Syndromic Hearing Loss
TECTB is a non‐collagenous protein of the tectorial membrane – an extracellular matrix of the cochlea. This study identifies dominant missense variants in TECTB linked to human hereditary deafness in two unrelated families. Genetically engineered mice homozygous for one of the variants are profoundly deaf, whereas heterozygous mice have normal hearing ...

Bird species richness and diversity at montane Important Bird Area (IBA) sites in south-eastern Nigeria [PDF]
The mountains of south-eastern Nigeria are a western extension of the Cameroon mountain range, which is classified as an endemic bird area (EBA). Unlike its eastern extension in Cameroon, most of the ornithological surveys in the western extension of the

Palaeoproteomic Deconvolution of Physical and Genetic Collagen Mixtures
ClassiCOL_v2 uses a novel “peptide patching” framework that treats any collagen sample as a patchwork of peptide sequences derived from phylogenetically related species. This allows the algorithm to simultaneously resolve two previously intractable problems: multi‐species samples and/or database deficiencies.

The European trade ban on wild birds reduced invasion risks
International wildlife trade is a major source of current biological invasions. However, the power of trade regulations to reduce invasion risks at large, continental scales has not been empirically assessed.

Blue Light Receptor PHR2‐Mediated Spectrum Antiviral Immunity
Blue light suppresses RBSDV through the blue‐light receptor ZmPHR2, which interacts with ZmISP in chloroplasts to trigger ROS burst and antiviral defense. The viral effector P6 enhances ZmPHR2–ZmISP interaction, alters their distribution, and suppresses ROS.

Abstract Premise Climate change is altering the timing of many plant phenological events, yet most studies focus on flowering, with less attention given to later reproductive stages such as fruit development and ripening. Vaccinium angustifolium (lowbush blueberry) is an important perennial berry species that may be sensitive to these changes.

Rethinking brachycephaly: Anatomical implications and health considerations in lagomorphs
Abstract Brachycephaly in domestic rabbits is increasingly perceived by welfare organizations as associated with significant health complications, particularly oral pathologies. Despite this perception, comparative anatomical research into rabbit brachycephaly is limited compared to that of dogs and cats, compelling an in‐depth examination of its ...
