Genome-wide sequence variations between wild and cultivated tomato species revisited by whole genome sequence mapping

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is the second most important vegetable crop after potato and a member of thirteen interfertile species of Solanum genus.

Determination of Egg Laying Preferences of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) on Wild Tomato Species

open access: yesMehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2022
In this study, the egg-laying preferences of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) on five different wild tomato species were examined. For this purpose, wild tomato species Solanum arcanum (LA2152), S.

The Developmental Trajectory of Leaflet Morphology in Wild Tomato Species     [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 2012
AbstractLeaves between species vary in their size, serration, complexity, and shape. However, phylogeny is not the only predictor of leaf morphology. The shape of a leaf is the result of intricate developmental processes, including heteroblastic progression (changes in leaf size and shape at different nodes) and the developmental stage of an organ. The

Grafting studies of tomato with wild Solanum rootstocks [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, 2021
A grafting study was conducted with three rootstocks viz., Solanum torvum, Solanum sisymbrifolium and Solanum capsicoides and two scion viz., TNAU tomato hybrid CO 3 and Shivam. Among the rootstocks Solanum capsicoides took less time to germinate and germination percentage was more in Solanum sisymbrifolium both at 15 and 25 days after sowing.

Genome variability of domestic tomato varieties: data from AFLP analysis

open access: yesВавиловский журнал генетики и селекции, 2022
Tomato Solanum lycopersicum L. is one of the main vegetable crops, accessions and cultivars of which are characterized by a low level of genomic polymorphism. Introgressive tomato breeding uses related wild Solanum species to improve cultivars for stress

Population Genomics in Wild Tomatoes—The Interplay of Divergence and Admixture [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Biology and Evolution, 2017
Hybridization between closely related plant species is widespread, but the outcomes of hybridization are not fully understood. This study investigates phylogenetic relationships and the history of hybridization in the wild tomato clade (Solanum sect. Lycopersicon).

Targets of selection in a disease resistance network in wild tomatoes [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, 2011
SUMMARY Studies combining comparative genomics and information on biochemical pathways have revealed that protein evolution can be affected by the amount of pleiotropy associated with a particular gene. The amount of pleiotropy, in turn, can be a function of the position at which a gene operates in a pathway and ...

Transgenic Plants Expressing Geminivirus Movement Proteins: Abnormal Phenotypes and Delayed Infection by Tomato mottle virus in Transgenic Tomatoes Expressing the Bean dwarf mosaic virus BV1 or BC1 Proteins

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2000
Transgenic tomato plants expressing wild-type or mutated BV1 or BC1 movement proteins from Bean dwarf mosaic virus (BDMV) were generated and examined for phenotypic effects and resistance to Tomato mottle virus (ToMoV).

Sucrose Synthase in Wild Tomato, Lycopersicon chmielewskii, and Tomato Fruit Sink Strength [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1992
Here it is reported that sucrose synthase can be readily measured in growing wild tomato fruits (Lycopersicon chmielewskii) when suitable methods are adopted during fruit extraction. The enzyme also was present in fruit pericarp tissues, in seeds, and in flowers.

Resistance to Bemisia tabaci in tomato wild relatives [PDF]

open access: yesEuphytica, 2012
AbstractBemisia tabaci is one of the most threatening pests in agriculture, particularly in Solanaceous crops such as tomato and pepper that are cultivated in the open field. Pesticide application is often not effective and hazardous to humans and environment.
