Abstract As large wildfires become more frequent and severe in North America due to heightened fuel aridity and fire weather conditions driven by anthropogenic climate change, wildfire smoke has an increasingly important influence on air quality. Transported smoke can impact urban boundary layer ozone (O3) directly, via the entrainment of O3 formed in ...

Assessing Forest Canopy Impacts on Smoke Concentrations Using a Coupled Numerical Model
The impact of a forest canopy on smoke concentration is assessed by applying a numerical weather prediction model coupled with a Lagrangian particle dispersion model to two low-intensity wildland (prescribed) fires in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Fatalities in wildland fires from 1945 to 2015 in Sardinia (Italy)
The worst outcome of wildland fires is the loss of human lives, a recurrent phenomenon over the last few decades in Sardinia, Europe and worldwide. This work analyzes all recorded fatalities in wildland fires in Sardinia from 1945 to 2015 and trends in ...

Coupled Atmosphere‐Wildland Fire Modelling
Simulating the interaction between fire and atmosphere is critical to the estimation of the rate of spread of the fire. Wildfire's convection (i.e., entire plume) can modify the local meteorology throughout the atmospheric boundary layer and consequently affect the fire propagation speed and behaviour.
