Clinical Rationale of Dual‐Parameter Tumor Markers Reporting Without Reliance on Normal Reference Ranges

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 18, September 2026.
We recommend the current practice of tumor marker reporting to upgrade to two‐figure format to include a specific growth rate in parentheses. This can be of great clinical importance, especially in the subnormal range. ABSTRACT Introduction This review offers clinicians a novel view of tumor markers (TM).

Physicochemical and Emulsifying Properties of Proteins From Caprine Whey Concentrates for Application in Fibril Formation

open access: yesSustainable Food Proteins, Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2026.
Goat whey protein concentrate was used to produce protein fibrils by heat treatment under acidic conditions. The resulting fibrils formed compact and interconnected networks and exhibited properties similar to those of fibrils obtained from a commercial bovine whey protein concentrate, demonstrating their potential as functional ingredients for food ...

Self‐Organized Vascularized Human Liver Spheroids: Serum‐Free Culture Conditions and Use as Tissue Building Blocks

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 49, 1 September 2026.
This approach addresses a major challenge in tissue engineering: creating larger, vascularized tissues. Microvascular networks in liver spheroids are developed through self‐organization mediated by mesenchymal stem cells. These spheroids are maintained in serum‐reduced or serum‐free medium and serve as building blocks to form planar tissue layers ...

Insights Into Microscale Biomineralization in Deep‐Sea Callogorgia Coral via Halogen Banding

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Halogen incorporation into coral carbonate skeletons serves as a valuable proxy for reconstructing paleoenvironments. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study employed femtosecond laser ablation‐inductively coupled plasma time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry (fs‐LA‐ICP‐TOFMS) to perform multi‐elemental (I, Br, P, Ca,

Offshore wind farm avoidance by a discard‐feeding seabird is independent of local fishing activity

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 9, Page 1727-1740, September 2026.
Fishing is not allowed within wind farms; therefore, discard‐feeding seabirds may appear to avoid wind farm areas. We found that most Lesser Black‐backed Gulls avoided the wind farm area, but not each individual in each period. Avoidance of the wind farm was not driven by fishing exclusion within its perimeter.
