We compute the phase and the modulus of an energy‐ and pressure‐free, composite, adjoint, and inert field ϕ in an SU(2) Yang‐Mills theory at large temperatures. This field is physically relevant in describing part of the ground‐state structure and the quasiparticle masses of excitations. The field ϕ possesses nontrivial S1‐winding on the group manifold

Antisymmetric Wilson loops in N=4$$ \mathcal{N}=4 $$ SYM: from exact results to non-planar corrections [PDF]
A bstractWe consider the vacuum expectation values of 1/2-BPS circular Wilson loops in N=4$$ \mathcal{N}=4 $$ super Yang-Mills theory in the totally antisymmetric representation of the gauge group U(N) or SU(N).

Holography at Work for Nuclear and Hadron Physics
The purpose of this review is to provide basic ingredients of holographic QCD to nonexperts in string theory and to summarize its interesting achievements in nuclear and hadron physics. We focus on results from a less stringy bottom‐up approach and review a stringy top‐down model with some calculational details.

Precision matching of circular Wilson loops and strings in AdS 5 × S 5
Previous attempts to match the exact N=4 $$ \mathcal{N}=4 $$ super Yang-Mills expression for the expectation value of the 12 $$ \frac{1}{2} $$-BPS circular Wilson loop with the semiclassical AdS 5 × S 5 string theory prediction were not successful at the

Quantization conditions and the double copy
We formulate Wilson loop observables as products of eikonal Wilson lines given in terms of on-shell scattering amplitudes. We derive the eikonal phases for dyons in both gauge theory and gravity, which we use to derive the Dirac-Schwinger-Zwanziger ...

The High Spin Expansion of Twist Sector Dimensions: The Planar 𝒩 = 4 Super Yang‐Mills Theory
This review is devoted to collecting some results on the high spin expansion of (minimal) anomalous dimension. Thanks to the recent rationale on integrability, planar 𝒩 = 4 super Yang‐Mills theory (or its AdS5 × S5 string counterpart) represents a very practicable field.

The next-to-next-to-leading order soft function for top quark pair production
We present the first calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order threshold soft function for top quark pair production at hadron colliders, with full velocity dependence of the massive top quarks.

Holographic Duality with a View Toward Many‐Body Physics
These are notes based on a series of lectures given at the KITP workshop Quantum Criticality and the AdS/CFT Correspondence in July, 2009. The goal of the lectures was to introduce condensed matter physicists to the AdS/CFT correspondence. Discussion of string theory and of supersymmetry is avoided to the extent possible.

Minimal area surfaces in AdS n+1 and Wilson loops
The AdS/CFT correspondence relates the expectation value of Wilson loops in N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 4 SYM to the area of minimal surfaces in AdS 5. In this paper we consider minimal area surfaces in generic Euclidean AdS n+1 using the Pohlmeyer reduction ...

Toward precision holography in type IIA with Wilson loops
We study the one-loop effective action of certain classical type IIA string configurations in AdS4 × ℂℙ3. These configurations are dual to Wilson loops in the N=6 $$ \mathcal{N}=6 $$ U(N) k × U(N)−k Chern-Simons theory coupled to matter whose expectation
