Wind energy potential in Maputaland

Development Southern Africa, 1995
This study examines the feasibility of harnessing wind energy to better the lives of rural people in an area of KwaZulu Natal which is remote from the national electricity grid. Using WASP, a computer program which is able to extrapolate data on wind speed and calculate potential energy, wind simulations were performed for 12 sites in the area.

Wind Energy Potential in Taiwan

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
The purpose of this paper is to contribute the database to users of wind power in Taiwan. The study analyzes 12 stations in Taiwan. The data were collected during the period 2001-2010. The Weibull distribution method was used to analyze wind characteristics and wind energy potential in the different site and height as well.

The wind energy potential of Malaysia

Solar Energy, 1986
Abstract Routine observations have been used to determine the diurnal and seasonal variations of the wind at 20 meteorological stations in Malaysia. The wind speed distributions, with calms omitted, are represented by Weibull functions. Seasonal mean wind power densities at the surface exceed 20 W m −2 only at stations on the east coast and in the ...

Wind energy progress and potential

Energy Policy, 1991
Abstract This paper reviews the progress made by wind energy in the last 10 years, and discusses the potential of this technology. Some of the countries with wind energy programmes are listed together with a discussion of how widely this energy source might be used.

The wind energy potential of Malaysia

Renewable Energy, 1995
Abstract Wind data collected at ten stations in Malaysia were analysed for wind energy potential. The data were collected over a ten-year period (1982–1991). The results were presented as a Weibull distribution and analysis indicated that the station at Mersing has the greatest potential, with a mean power density of 85.61 W/m2 at 10 m above sea ...

Wind energy potential in Morocco

Renewable Energy, 1991
Abstract This paper consists of 5 years' hourly wind data for 17 locations in Morocco. Three towns were chosen as the best locations for wind energy utilization, namely: Laayoune, Tanger and Dakhla. The diurnal pattern, probability functions Weibull, Weibull-hybrid and Rayleigh distribution were compared and the data fit was established.

The potential for wind energy in Britain

Energy Policy, 1988
Abstract This paper discusses the prospects for the large-scale use of wind power for electricity supply in Britain. Recent economic advances in wind energy are outlined, and it is shown that on windy sites, currently-available machines are among the cheapest generating options.

Wind energy potential estimation with prediction of wind speed distribution

International Journal of Intelligent Systems Technologies and Applications, 2018
Integration of renewable distributed generation technology with radial power distribution system is rapidly growing. Among the number of available renewable energy sources, the role of wind energy in the power sector is very important. In this work, authors have estimated the wind energy potential at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), India. Estimation of
