Multi-Frequency SAR Retrieval of Sea Surface Wind Field

IGARSS 2023 - 2023 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2023
This study is to present the lesson learned during the activ- ities related to the Italian Space Agency (ASI) funded AP- PLICAVEMARS project which aims at estimating sea surface wind field from L-, C- and X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery.

Outlook for a New Wind Field Retrieval Technique: The 4D-Var Wind Retrieval

2014 International Radar Conference, 2014
In this paper we introduce the 4D-Var wind retrieval, which is inspired on four-dimensional variational assimilation, typically used in numerical weather models. We simulate simple wind scenarios, with single or double vortices, to get insight in radar measurements. We apply the linear wind model to radar measurements of IDRA radar measurements and ...

A Typhoon Wind-Field Retrieval Method for the Dual-Polarization SAR Imagery

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2019
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is widely used to detect sea surface wind. It has been found that the signals of co-polarization SAR tend to become saturated under high wind-speed conditions. Also, low signal-to-noise ratios of cross-polarization SAR have been observed under low wind-speed conditions.
