Hurricane eyewall winds and structural response of wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science, 2020
This paper describes the analysis of a wind turbine and support structure subject to simulated hurricane wind fields. The hurricane wind fields, which result from a large eddy simulation of a hurricane, exhibit features such as very high gust factors ...

Correlations Between Wake Phenomena and Fatigue Loads Within Large Wind Farms: A Large-Eddy Simulation Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2022
This work proposes a methodology aiming at simulating the whole wind farm behavior, from the wake phenomena to the wind turbine fatigue loads, in a both accurate and efficient way and for a large range of operating conditions.

A Practical Load-Source Coordinative Method for Further Reducing Curtailed Wind Power in China with Energy-Intensive Loads

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Large-scale wind power farms in China are suffering from large amounts of curtailed wind power in the conventional dispatching mode. Energy-intensive loads have great potential in providing service regulation to help consume the curtailed wind power ...

The physics of wind-blown sand and dust [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The transport of sand and dust by wind is a potent erosional force, creates sand dunes and ripples, and loads the atmosphere with suspended dust aerosols.

Criterion‐Related Validity of the Neuropsychological Quick Assessment for Screening Cognitive, Motor, and Behavioral Impairments in Patients With Pediatric Brain Tumors: An Observational Pilot Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neuropsychological complications may impair the qualitative prognosis of patients with pediatric brain tumors. However, multifaceted evaluations cannot be conducted in all patients because they are time consuming and burdensome for patients.

A technique for reducing supersonic transient loads on internal wind tunnel balances [PDF]

open access: yesTehnika
Design of slender supersonic missiles requires a comprehensive experimental support in the form of wind tunnel data for a wide range of flight parameters (angle of attack and Mach number). However, in supersonic wind tunnel testing, the problem exists of

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Response of 5 MW Floating Wind Turbines to Combined Action of Wind and Rain

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2022
For 5 MW floating wind turbines, the load response is significantly affected by wind and rain conditions. In order to reveal the relevant regularity of windblown rain and analyze the load response after being affected by the wind and rain, the rain phase

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
