A Wind Estimation Method with an Unmanned Rotorcraft for Environmental Monitoring Tasks

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Wind velocity (strength and direction) is an important parameter for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based environmental monitoring tasks. A novel wind velocity estimation method is proposed for rotorcrafts. Based on an extended state observer, this method

Wind inhibition by X-ray irradiation in HMXBs: the influence of clumping and the final X-ray luminosity

open access: yes, 2018
In wind-powered X-ray binaries, the radiatively driven stellar wind from the primary may be inhibited by the X-ray irradiation. This creates the feedback that limits the X-ray luminosity of the compact secondary.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Study on flow around straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine under low tip speed ratio

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2014
The flow field around a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is very complicated because the blades pass in non-uniform flow field by the blade wake during rotation.

The velocity characteristics of WR stellar winds [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1981
The stellar winds of hot early-type stars are characterised spectroscopically by the presence of P-Cygni profiles, which are most marked for resonance transitions of common ions and generally occur in the UV, and typical resonance lines of SiIV, CIV, NV and OVI are well known P-Cygni signatures of stellar winds in luminous OB stars.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Determination of Wind Parameters by the Method of Differential Corrections [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1994
This paper describes a method for the determination of wind parameters as mass-loss rate, wind velocity, stochastic velocity in Zeta Aurigae type binaries.
