EXPERIMENTAL TEST OF THE MODEL OF A NONLOCAL ELASTIC FOUNDATION

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings, 2015
The design of bars, lying on an elastic base is fulfilled usually with help of a simple model of the base proposed by Winkler. This hypothesis was subjected to repeated critics. A new model of nonlocal elastic foundation was proposed by PotapovV.D .

Solution of the axisymmetric problem of the bending of a plate on a winkler bed with allowance for displacement of normals and layer pressure

open access: yes, 2009
A numerical analytical solution is presented for the three-dimensional axisymmetric problem of the bending of a infinite elastic isotropic plate on a Winkler bed.

Are we misdiagnosing ensemble forecast reliability? On the insufficiency of spread–error and rank‐based reliability metrics

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that the spread–error relationship, rank histogram, and continuous rank probability score reliability component can falsely indicate reliability under climatological variance biases, yielding ensemble members that are overly or insufficiently extreme.

Fair Markets and Resilient Supply Chains: Designing Sustainable Intermediation for Rural Communities

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Agriculture in Ecuador's communes faces significant economic, social, and environmental challenges, intensified by supply chains dominated by traditional intermediaries. The lack of context‐specific sustainability studies further increases the vulnerability of smallholders.

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of Sb2O2[CO3] with Stereochemically Active Lone Electron Pairs at Elevated Pressures

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
Sb2O2[CO3] was synthesized at 20 GPa in a laser‐heated diamond cell and is an antimony oxocarbonate with stereochemically active lone electron pairs on the antimony atoms. Its crystal structure is characterized by the presence of [CO3]2–‐groups and by interconnected “Sb2O5‐units” which form a Sb–O‐network within the b,c lattice plane.

Dynamic Behavior of an Elastic Beam on a Winkler Foundation under a Moving Load

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of this study is to investigate the response of an elastic beam on a Winkler foundation under a moving load. The load is assumed as a moving harmonic load and the beam is considered as an infinite Bernoulli-Euler beam with constant cross ...

Closeness and disappointment in Jordanian friendships Proximité et déception en amitié en Jordanie

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
Western folk models of friendship assume that friends like one another, implying mutually positive feelings. However, accounts of friendship from across times and places suggest that disappointment goes along with friendship as often as mutual affection.

CENSUS UNDERCOUNTS, DIGITAL DISPLACEMENT, AND DATA JUSTICE: What Social Scientists and Data Users Need to Know About the 2020 US Census

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Census data are foundational to democracy, research and equitable urban policy. In addition to supporting political reapportionment and redistricting, census data serve as the backbone of the federal statistical data system and are often considered the highest quality data—the ‘gold standard'—for scholarly and policy research.

VISUAL NEGOTIATIONS OF GENTRIFICATION IN TORONTO: Contestation, Politicization and Resistance through Urban Signage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This article engages signage as a medium through which urban stakeholders negotiate the politics of housing redevelopment and gentrification in cities. Focusing on Toronto, we examine housing‐related signage in three neighbourhoods where social mix approaches to redevelopment have ushered in gentrification: Parkdale, Regent Park, and Moss Park.

Marriage, Wealth, and the Spread of Cohabitation in Canada

open access: yesThe British Journal of Sociology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research demonstrates a robust link between marriage and wealth. Wealth facilitates marriage, which then fosters wealth accumulation, resulting in significant net worth disparities between married and cohabiting couples. Does the decline of marriage and growth of cohabitation alter this relationship?
