Timing of deacclimation affects the ability to recover from simulated winter herbivory
Plant Ecology, 1998The ability of Vaccinium myrtillus L. to recover from simulated winter herbivory has been investigated on different plants which had been exposed to three elevated temperatures (5 °C, 10 °C or 20 °C) for four weeks in a greenhouse environment. After herbivory, number and length of new aerial shoots and number of leaves/shoot increased faster in plants ...

Estimates of Heterosis and Combining Ability in Winter Wheat1
Crop Science, 1968From a seven‐parent diallel cross, using soft red, soft white, and hard red winter wheat varieties, 10 of the 21 F1 hybrids yielded significantly more grain than the better parent in a space‐planted experiment. The average yield of all hybrids was 24% greater than the better parent in each cross.

Weed-Competitive Ability of Spring and Winter Cereals in the Northern Great Plains
Weed Technology, 2010The inclusion of winter cereals in spring-annual rotations in the northern Great Plains may reduce weed populations and herbicide requirements. A broad range of spring and winter cereals were compared for ability to suppress weeds and maximize grain yield at Lacombe (2002 to 2005) and Lethbridge (2003 to 2005), Alberta, Canada.

Differential Competitive Ability of Winter Wheat Cultivars against Downy Brome
Agronomy Journal, 1994AbstractDowny brome (Bromus tectorum L.) causes large yield reductions in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) in the western USA and Canada. Current control practices using fallow and preseeding tillage often are ineffective. A study was conducted over 3 yr at Lethbridge, AB, to determine if winter wheat cultivars varying in height and growth habit ...

The ability of birds at the winter feeder to recognize owl species
The ability of the Great tit (Parus major), and the Eurasian Blue tit (Cyanustes caeruleus) to recognize owl species was assessed in this study. Taxidermic models and playback calls of two owl species posing varying levels of threat to the tit species, the Tawny owl (Strix aluco) and the Long-eared owl (Asio otus), were used to study predator ...openaire +1 more source
