Abstract The test was conducted in a grower’s center-pivot, sprinkler-irrigated field. The soil type was Ritzville (Calciorthidie Haploxerolls) silt loam; it contained less than 0.5% organic matter. Soil samples (150) taken in a similar adjacent field with a 51/2-in. diam posthole digger to a depth of at least 18 in.
