The main aim of this article is to present the circumstances surrounding the first meeting between Roman Ingarden and Stanislaw I. Witkiewicz in Toruń in 1924. Therefore, in the first place, Ingarden’s life and scientific background are discussed. Next, the social and artistic context of the city in which Witkiewicz participated is presented.
