Jumping on the moon as a potential exercise countermeasure

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Moon's gravitational field strength (17% Earth's gravity) may facilitate the use of bodyweight jumping as an exercise countermeasure against musculoskeletal and cardiovascular deconditioning in reduced gravity settings. The present study characterised the acute physiological and kinetic responses to bodyweight jumping in simulated Lunar ...

Properties and applications of warm mix asphalt in the road construction industry: a comprehensive review and insights toward facilitating large-scale adoption

open access: yesReviews on Advanced Materials Science
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) is a sustainable innovation in road construction that enables bituminous mixtures to be produced and compacted at lower temperatures than traditional hot mix asphalt (HMA).

When Water is no Longer Heaven Sent: Comparative Pricing Analysis in an AGE Model [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we present a applied general equilibrium model with special features that allows for comparative analysis of different pricing scheme. We look at Boiteux-Ramsey Pricing, Marginal Cost Pricing as well as an arbitrary water pricing increase ...

Carotid artery dissection linked to intermittent apnoeic swimming: A case–control study

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is a rare and potentially devastating cause of cerebral ischaemia, initiated by an intimal tear or rupture of the vasa vasorum, that can lead to an intraluminal thrombus, vascular stenosis, occlusion, or dissecting aneurysm formation.

Resistance training load does not determine resistance training‐induced hypertrophy across upper and lower limbs in healthy young males

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend In healthy young males, we found that skeletal muscle hypertrophy following a period of resistance exercise training (RET) was consistent within and between subjects, as assessed using a variety of established methods. The skeletal muscle hypertrophic response was independent of external load.

A probabilistic investigation of long-term field performance of warm mix asphalt pavements

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
Warm-mix asphalt (WMA) has been gaining popularity in sustainable road engineering due to its reduced environmental impacts. However, uncertainties remain regarding its long-term pavement performance compared to hot mix asphalt (HMA).
