Fracture evolution of a thick soft protection layer and the water inrush mechanism in overburden under longwall mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Through shear–tensile creep tests and viscoelastic modeling, the fracture evolution of thick soft protective layers is clarified. Results show thickness‐dependent rheological failure modes that govern four types of roof water inrush, providing a mechanism‐based framework for hazard prediction and control. Abstract In the Jurassic coal‐bearing strata of

An Opportunistic Routing Mechanism Combined with Long-Term and Short-Term Metrics for WMN

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
WMN (wireless mesh network) is a useful wireless multihop network with tremendous research value. The routing strategy decides the performance of network and the quality of transmission.

Gamification of learning deactivates the Default Mode Network

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
We hypothesised that embedding educational learning in a game would improve learning outcomes, with increased engagement and recruitment of cognitive resources evidenced by increased activation of working memory network (WMN) and deactivation of Default ...

“Building the Plane as We Fly It”: Examining the Current Pathways for Disclosure of Gender‐Based Violence in Sport in Australia

open access: yesGender, Work &Organization, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines how gendered institutional arrangements in Australian sport shape the reporting of gender‐based violence (GBV) against adult women and gender‐diverse people. Using feminist institutionalism, we analyze the formal and informal rules that structure sport integrity systems and the gendered power relations they reproduce ...

Secure routing protocol based on dynamic reputation and load balancing in wireless mesh networks

open access: yesJournal of Cloud Computing: Advances, Systems and Applications, 2022
Aiming at the characteristics of dynamic topology change and vulnerability of wireless mesh networks (WMN), a secure routing protocol based on dynamic reputation and load balance (SRP-DRLB) is proposed to improve the routing security and load balance. By

‘In Curaçao They Celebrate King's Day Abundantly!’ – Diachronic Representation of (Post)colonial Communities in Dutch Geography Textbook Discourse (1946–2018)

open access: yesTijdschrift voor Economische en Sociale Geografie, EarlyView.
Abstract Postcolonial textbook research leads us to reflect on the representation of (post)colonial communities in educational media for adolescents in geography education. This paper contributes to this scholarship through Critical Discourse Analysis tracing how nine Dutch geography textbooks (1946–2018) have represented such communities from ...

Comparison of Metaheuristic Algorithms for Interface-Constrained Channel Assignment in a Hybrid Dynamic Spectrum Access – Wi-Fi Infrastructure WMN

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
In this work, we evaluate the application of four different metaheuristic optimisation algorithms for solving the channel assignment problem in a multi-radio multi-channel Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) using Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA). The work advances

Extremism at the center: Uncovering political diversity among midpoint responders on the left–right self‐placement item

open access: yesPolitical Psychology, Volume 47, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract The midpoint of the left‐right self‐placement item is the most populated of all response options. While genuinely‐centrist responders opt to self‐place there, it is also a convenient response option for those that cannot easily fit their politics to the left‐right spectrum.

Higher Body Mass Index Is a Causal Risk Factor for Skin Infections: A Mendelian Randomisation Study Using UK Biobank and FinnGen

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 7, Page 5907-5914, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Infections remain a leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. We aimed to evaluate the potential causal role of higher BMI on common bacterial, viral and fungal infections using Mendelian randomisation (MR). Material and Methods In UK Biobank (N = 502 131, N = 230 542 with linked GP records), we tested observational associations ...

Embracing Creative Nonconformists and Promoting Them May Require Leaders' High Control Appraisals

open access: yesJournal of Organizational Behavior, Volume 47, Issue 5, Page 823-842, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Promoting creative employees is essential to innovation and organizational success. However, leaders do not always embrace the nonconformist nature of creative behaviors. This study examines how leaders' control appraisals—a personal orientation reflecting their belief in their own ability to control situations—influence their receptiveness ...
