DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

The effect of mass loss on mechanic properties of heat-treated paulownia wood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study, the eff ect of mass loss on mechanic properties of Paulownia (Paulownia elongata) wood was investigated. For this study, three diff erent temperatures (160, 180, and 200oC) and durations (3, 5, and 7 hours) were carried out.

Stabilisation of polysaccharides during alkaline pretreatment of wood combined with enzyme-supported extractions in a biorefinery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Specific enzymes have been demonstrated to increase the possibilities for extracting wood polymers. Enzymatic treatment requires an open wood structure, which was achieved by extended impregnation of the wood.

Wood for sound [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, 2006
The unique mechanical and acoustical properties of wood and its aesthetic appeal still make it the material of choice for musical instruments and the interior of concert halls. Worldwide, several hundred wood species are available for making wind, string, or percussion instruments.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Prevalence trends of wood use as the main cooking fuel in Mexico, 1990-2013

open access: yesSalud Pública de México, 2017
Objective. To determine prevalence trends of using Wood as the Main Cooking Fuel (WMCF) in Mexico and household characteristics that predict its use. Materials and methods. Estimates were obtained from the 1990, 2000 and 2010 censuses and from a national
